Mitago Residences
Mitago is the first residency center in Latvia primarily focused on the crucial stages of film production - scriptwriting and editing. The residency center offers the opportunity to work undisturbed on both audiovisual post-production and scriptwriting, as well as other dramatic works. In addition to the residency format, creative workshops and events will be organized.
Mitago's goal is to promote creativity and innovation related to the development of professional arts by fostering regional and international collaboration in the audiovisual industry among cultural organizations and individuals. It provides a functioning workspace and infrastructure outside the usual urban environment.
The project was developed with the support of the Rural Support Service, North Kurzeme Business Association, and Altum, under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) event «Coastal business support, startup, diversification, and reduction of seasonality». As a result of the project, an old fisherman's house in Mazirbe, built in 1906, has been renovated and reconstructed. In 1949, the occupants were expelled, and the house was taken over by a fishermen's collective. The house was abandoned for over 10 years until in 2007, the film studio FA Filma established a film editing base there.
